Job Description

The Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse Manager is a registered professional nurse with 24-hour, seven days-a-week accountability and authority for ensuring quality patient care within a unit or department and for managing the resources necessary to deliver care. Provides direct patient care as required. Responsible for hiring, evaluating, and maintaining qualified competent staff to serve patient needs.

Job Duties

  • Accountable for maintaining professional and clinical skills for self and staff. Assesses capabilities and needs of each staff member through the evaluation process, assures completion of orientation, and facilitates professional growth and development.
  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and applies professional practice standards and practices nursing within the scope of any applicable State Nurse Practice Act and is aware and directs the radiological staff according to standards set by their professional practice in applicable state.
  • Demonstrates management and leadership skills in directing clinical nursing and radiological activities within the scope of the department’s patient care delivery system by monitoring patient satisfaction survey and developing action plan for improvement.
  • Participates in and utilizes performance improvement to impact patient outcomes. Monitors and evaluates quality of care with a focus on patient safety and nurse sensitive indicators.
  • Completes performance evaluations on self and staff accurately and timely. Identifies areas of improvement and develops actions plans to achieve success. Monitors associate turnover and vacancy rates and submits action plans to achieve unit and organizational goals.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills through active listening, effective verbal and written communications, regularly scheduled departmental meetings, and prompt response to various types of communications.
  • Identifies and manages change to achieve the core vision and values in an efficient and effective manner by supervising, coaching, empowering, motivating and disciplining associates. Demonstrates conflict prevention and management through team building intra and interdepartmentally.
  • Creates, monitors, and researches opportunities for growth, develops proposals and business plans and provides updates/reviews of new programs and initiatives. Evaluates personal growth and development based on feedback of organizational surveys.
  • Provides input, advice, and evaluation into the budget development process and executes accountability in regard to implementing the unit budget. Demonstrates fiscal accountability by maintaining services within budgetary and human resource constraints.
  • Sets priorities and appropriately allocates resources to staff department based on budget, flexes staffing based on census/activity. Strives to meet the organization's agreed upon financial goals reflecting the strategic plan.

Qualifications

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

BSN or equivalent Healthcare Administration degree. Graduate of accredited school of nursing, licensed to practice nursing in the state where work is being performed. Meets contact hour requirements for licensure, including all state-required courses.

Specialized Knowledge:

Ability to direct self & others and interpret Cardiac Cath Lab and nursing policies, procedures, and standards. Knowledge of management theory. Demonstrates application of leadership concepts. Clinical expertise relevant to area of responsibility

Kind and Length of Experience:

3-5 years nursing experience; experience relevant to the specific clinical area. Experience as Assistant Nurse Manager or equivalent in acute care setting. Experience with staffing/scheduling and managing a unit/department budget.
