The Registered Nurse/Team Leader is responsible for providing nursing leadership in an associate management role for an assigned shift. Provide for the care needs of patients utilizing the nursing process either by directly providing the care or by supervising the care on assigned shift. Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary team to facilitate the throughput of patients both in and out of the unit in a timely manner.Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Job Description:
- Participates as a member/shift leader of the patient care delivery team utilizing the principles of the nursing process within the scope of our nursing care delivery system
- Assesses capabilities and needs of each team member and assists in orientation process of new team members on assigned shift. Ensures clinical competency of team members. Gives input into the formal verification of clinical competencies annually as well as input into the performance appraisal process.
- Demonstrates leadership skills and decision-making abilities by assisting the nurse manager/assistant nurse manager in directing clinical nursing activities on assigned shift, working with the heath care team in coordinating shift activities including throughput activities. For urgent/emergent issues, follows appropriate chain of command.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Magnet standards. Works collaboratively with manager to integrate unit Magnet plan into culture. Facilitates staff knowledge of Magnet principles and integrates staff roles into the shared governance model
- Demonstrates personal work characteristics as recognized by St. Elizabeth Healthcare as stated in the associate handbook. Maintains professionalism at all times and acts/serves as a role model/coach/mentor
- Assist in facilitating performance improvement activities. Monitors and evaluates quality on assigned shift with focus on patient safety, nurse sensitive indicators, and core measures. Provides input into unit PI plan/and recommendations for improvement. Monitors compliance per shift to core measure requirements and identifies opportunities for improvement. Provides input into unit action plans.
- Monitors customer satisfaction on shift and reports areas of concern to management. Facilitates customer service initiatives (HCAHPS) on shift and holds associates accountable for all initiatives.
- Monitors associate satisfaction and keeps Manager/ANM informed of potential issues/opportunities. Provides input into associate action plan and ensures facilitation on shift. Provides input into performance appraisals and into counseling/disciplinary action (cannot do independently)
- Effectively communicates with staff, physicians, patients, families, and personnel in the department and other areas to promote effective working relationships. Assumes advocacy role on behalf of families and assists in complaint resolution
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
- Graduate from accredited School of Nursing, licensed to practice in the state where work is being performed.
- Meets contact hour requirements for licensure, including all state-required courses.
Specialized Knowledge:
Ability to direct self and others. Aware of Nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocols. Knowledgeable of the organizations mission, vision, values. Demonstrates clinical proficiency
Kind and Length of Experience:
One-year recent nursing experience in clinical area of specialty. Experience as a shift charge nurse.
