16Job Summary:
Supportive role for phlebotomy training across all disciplines including presentation of phlebotomy training programs and orientation programs developed by the phlebotomy training supervisor, coordinates observation training schedules and job shadow days, assists with CCT/nursing phlebotomy training and program development. Directly involved in delivering courses as needed at various locations under the direction of the phlebotomy training supervisor. Directly involved in assisting with competency planning for staff including initial review, annual review and sign off. Enthusiastic collaboration with other departments within the Healthcare System as necessary to meet phlebotomy education/ training needs. Willing to perform phlebotomy as needed.Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors, and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Job Description:
- Able to complete basic phlebotomy training and to assist the training supervisor as instructed.
- Capable of presenting individual phlebotomy courses across disciplines.
- Able to setup and tear down classroom equipment/materials without assistance
- Able to complete required paperwork and documentation needed for all classes
- Exhibits knowledge of phlebotomy skillsets (anatomy, medical terminology, IT applications).
- Must have knowledge of collection and ordering requirements for basic laboratory testing as well as for reference labs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Laboratory Compliance policies and procedures.
- Delivers programs through collaboration with lab sites and CCT/Nursing educators.
- Delivers material consistent with the Organizational Development Program curriculum/message as part of the onboarding program for Phlebotomists and all other disciplines.
- Capable of evaluating phlebotomists initial and ongoing competency in accordance with written protocols/procedures
- Assists trainer with development of competency plans.
- Willing to travel to all sites to provide one-on-one training as needed
- Able to assist with programs as needed for students on a variety of career paths and age ranges including education modules for high school students, nursing students and students in the laboratory sciences.
- Willing to participate in career fairs and to speak to student groups to promote the phlebotomy field.
- Enhances professional growth and development of self, department staff, other hospital personnel, community, and students by participating in continuing education, and in-service training
- Implements ICARE principles to promote education in quality patient care and a productive work environment.
- Promotes teamwork and positive attitude in alignment with St E values.
- Dynamic presentation with strong communication skills.
- Able to cover classes in the absence of the training supervisor
- Performs phlebotomy as needed upon request
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
- High School Diploma or GED
Specialized Knowledge:
- Strong communication and human relations skills
- Above average problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated. Capable of completing tasks without direct supervision
- Demonstrated customer service skills
Kind and Length of Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
- Minimum of 1yr phlebotomy experience
- Experience with organizational/presentation skills
