Satisfy requirements of the Kentucky Cancer Registry (KCR)/Indiana State Cancer Registry (ISCR) and the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACOS CoC) in reporting cancer and keeping an accredited cancer program. Specifically responsible for maintaining all Cancer Registry suspense files, completing timely case finding so as cases are ready for daily abstracting, coordinating quality audits, and keeping follow-up information up to date on all cases. Participate in community education/prevention/screening projects.Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Job Description:
Complete patient case finding and perform quality audits to comply with SEH, KCR, and CoC ACOS timeliness/quality standards. Maintain all registry electronic case finding systems with the ability to convert/create Excel case finding lists from multiple incoming databases. Timely distribution of reportable cases to abstractor work queues for completion and updating of lists for all cases completed. Log/submit non-reportable cases to the KCR. Prepare state abstracting/follow-up/case finding auditing requests. Stays up to date with all KCR/CoC ACOS case reporting requirements.
Complete patient follow-up and perform quality audits to comply with SEH, KCR, and CoC ACOS timeliness/quality standards. Reviews/requests internal and external medical records to assure complete demographic, subsequent treatment and disease status information is recorded. Codes information electronically in real time to the KCR. Stays up to date with all KCR/ACOS and coding manual standards. Missing diagnostic, staging, 1st course treatment information is communicated to abstractors for coding.
Research studies, reports and education: Market, promote, educate and provide cancer research studies/reports to physicians, administrators, and community at large. Prepares statistical reports based on cancer patient data/trends/patterns. Participates in community activities for cancer education/prevention/screening, educational presentations, quarterly cancer registry PI quality monitors, studies of quality and NCDB data submission. All in compliance within SEH, KCR, ACOS CoC timeliness/quality standards.
Serve as effective back up to ODS II in all duties where applicable including but not limited to, Cancer Conferences, Cancer Committee, accreditation preparation, CAP monitoring, and studies of quality. Excluding abstracting duties unless in training for ODS II vacant position whereas case abstracting will be performed under supervision of a CTR and ODS I is *eligible for (see desirable qualifications) and passes NCRA CTR certification within 3 years of the date of hire; or by 2015 if hired before 1-1-12 per CoC standards. Assists manager with administrative secretarial duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
Allied Healthcare degree or equivalent
Specialized Knowledge:
Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong medical terminology, anatomy and physiology skills. Ability to read, understand, interpret medical records.
Kind and Length of Experience:
Previous Healthcare experience

*NCRA CTR certification eligibility routes =
Route A EDUCATION (1) Successful completion of an NCRA Accredited Formal Education Associate Degree program OR
(2) successful completion of an NCRA accredited formal education certificate program with completion of a minimum of an associate degree [or equivalent (60 college credits with passing grade)] AND EXPERIENCE of 160 hours of work practicum in a CTR-staffed Cancer Registry.
Route B EDUCATION successful completion of a minimum of an associate degree [or equivalent (60 college credits with passing grade)] including, or in addition to, 2 semesters of Human Anatomy and Physiology college-level course work AND EXPERIENCE of 1950 hours in the Cancer Registry field.
Oncology/Pathology experience and/or HIM coding experience.
