Job Summary:

Reports to the Operations Manager and/or Clinical Coordinator, Front Office Coordinator, the Phlebotomist/Lab Technician provides clinical support to the physician and mid-level providers. The Phlebotomist/Lab Technician provides the venipuncture service to patients as directed by the providers. The Phlebotomist/Lab Technician is also responsible for compliance with all OSHA/CLIA and HIPAA regulations and ensuring completion of all duties vital to business operations.

EDUCATION: 

Minimum: H.S. Diploma/GED. Graduate of accredited medical assisting school or equivalent experience.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

6 months to 1-year experience preferred.

Preferred Experience: Phlebotomist Experience

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Ability to learn other computer skills.
  • Must have good organizational skills and work professionally with doctors, hospital administration and management, SEP employees and the public.

  • Experience in planning and coordinating multi-disciplinary communications strategies, strategic initiatives, and events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Document in chart the appropriate patient history and prepare patient for exam.
  • Provide patient care by giving clear direction to the patient, address patient concerns about the exam. Document appropriately in-patient chart.
  • Ensure completion of all forms vital to the revenue cycle (i.e. verification/clarification of orders, waivers for non- covered services, encounter form)
  • Provide instructions to patient under direction of the provider(s).
  • Ensure complete and accurate information in patient chart.
  • Maintain adequate level of supplies in exam rooms and workstation.
  • Clean and disinfect exam rooms.
  • Perform cleaning, maintenance, and/or sterilization of equipment and instruments. Report malfunction of equipment to appropriate supervisor.
  • OSHA, CLIA and HIPAA compliance.
  • Assist with completion of patient requests.
  • Completion of referral process/outpatient test scheduling, and precertification.
  • Timely and accurate filing/distribution of all patient information and oncoming mail.
  • Interact with laboratory and/or Central Billing Office as needed to resolve patient issues.
  •  Prepare equipment to efficiently collect blood products.
  • Perform venipuncture, arterial and capillary punctures on patients.
  • Identify and properly label each specimen.
  • Properly identify and complete lab requisition forms in accordance with provider's order, lab requirements, and insurance requirements
  • Inventories supplies and maintains adequate supplies in work area.
  • Provide back-up support for Medical Assistant by assistant with standard rooming process and handling clinical phone call duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
