Provides specialized perinatal care in the Maternal Fetal Center and performs all levels of OB/GYN ultrasound and antenatal testing in an inpatient/outpatient setting.Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Job Description:
- Performs ultrasound examination per defined protocol. Assists the patient throughout the examination, explaining testing process and ensuring patient comfort.
- All associates shall follow the applicable safety steps required to perform their duties to ensure safety for themselves and their patients, and be in compliance with Medical Center, state, and federal safety standards.
- Examples of such steps include: performing proper safety procedures and precautions; reporting safety concerns and incidents; using correct lifting techniques and disposing of sharps and infectious waste properly.
- Obtains and records all patient data as required by the medical center, state, JCAHO or other agencies.
- Complies with all requirements of the Centers AIUM accreditation.
- Must be proficient in all aspects of ordered US procedure. This Center provides diagnostic images for interpretation by Maternal Fetal Physicians. Ensure proper charging of all procedures, coding, and modifiers are correct.
- Completed examinations are processed on the US machine, imaging software and the image archiving system for interpretation.
- Must assist the physicians with invasive procedure. Preps, monitors, and assists the physician with invasive procedures.
- Works closely with physicians, genetic counselor, and other nursing staff to promote good working relationships and quality patient care.
- Complies with house-wide BSI precautions and follows recommendations for cleaning transducers. Able to utilize Trophon per procedure.
- Operates all equipment in an effective, safe and efficient manner. Performs routine maintenance of all department equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
- Associate Degree OR ultrasound certification from AMA approved school of Radiologic or Ultrasound Technology Certification through a Radiology Tech program from an accredited hospital.
- Must be certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography ARDMS in OB/GYN.
- Credentials are expected to be kept in force for their respective areas of training and all related annual CMEs completed timely.
Specialized Knowledge:
- Will have extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology, ultrasound physics, and ultrasound equipment.
- Use of intravaginal scanning, Doppler Flow scanning, M-mode scanning ability.
- Will be familiar with all B-Mode, Real Time, Color Flow Applications, 2D and 3D.
- Nuchal Translucency Certification preferred but required within two years of hire date.
- Nasal Bone Certification preferred but required within two years of hire date.
- Specialty certification in one other area of OB imaging.
Kind and Length of Experience:
- Adequate clinical experience from an approved program
- Perinatal sonographer is directly responsible for results acquired for interpretation by a physician. The skills must not only be exceptional but the Maternal Fetal Specialist must also approve them in order to work independently of other technologists or physicians.
