Job Summary:

The Physical Therapist provides Physical Therapy services to inpatients and outpatients of the hospital and associated units and sites. The primary role of the Physical Therapist is to reduce pain, improve mobility and safety, and improve overall functional outcomes. They also train staff and students, supervise Physical Therapist Assistants, Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy technicians, volunteers and students, and participate in performance improvement programs.

Job Duties:

Evaluates clients, develops goals, establishes treatment plans, develops goals, and ensures the plan is implemented

Supervises performance of ancillary personnel, documents progress, reports to the Director, Manager, Clinical Supervisors, or Senior CHT any problem or potential problem

All reports and documentation are accurate, current, in proper format and completed in an acceptable timeframe.

Provides physical therapy treatment, including patient/family education, development of home exercise programs, and making recommendations for discharge.  Assists with orienting and mentoring staff.  If working in Hand Therapy, works under the supervision of a Certified Hand Therapist, either a PT/CHT or OT/CHT, and in direct or telecommunication at all times with a CHT.

Participates in departmental and Healthcare System PI programs and implements established action plans.  Attends and participates in department meetings and in-services.  When indicated, assists with developing and implementing treatment protocols and procedures in conjunction with other staff.

Adheres to the APTA code of ethics guidelines, all regulatory agency guidelines, and all Healthcare System and departmental policy and procedures.

Maintains a professional image, markets services offered while performing day to day responsibilities, and completes all other related duties as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

BS, MS, or DPT in Physical Therapy from an accredited program

Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state where work is being performed

Commitment to seek CHT certification once having met the requirements for the exam, if the PT is working in the Hand Therapy department.

Specialized Knowledge: 

Knowledge of assessment techniques and anticipated outcomes

Good interpersonal, communication, and time management skills

Kind and Length of Experience: 

New graduates or experienced therapist
