Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing genetic counseling for a variety of indications, tailored to the needs of the department and the interest of the candidate. This includes hereditary cancer and hereditary cardiac conditions with the potential for growth into additional areas of precision medicine such as adult, Neurology, pharmacogenomics and laboratory stewardship. All counseling and genetic programs will be in accord with the mission of St. Elizabeth Healthcare as sponsored by the Bishop of the Covington Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church. This serves as an entry level position for new MS-degreed individuals or those seeking to participate in direct patient care activity only.Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Job Description:
- Genetic counseling: provides comprehensive genetic counseling in 2 mutually agreed upon indications within the Precision Medicine Department.
- Demonstrates expertise, specialized knowledge and leadership to the extent they are considered a leading genetic counselor for a given specialty.
- Serves as project manager for a minimum of one ongoing project specific to the department.
- Provides direct student supervision and mentorship of new employees developing their professional skills.
- Professional conduct including patient confidentiality, showing empathy and compassion to patients and families.
- Seeks out opportunities to increase knowledge and skills in area of expertise including maintaining appropriate certification and licensure.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
- Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited institution.
- Board Certified (American Board of Genetic Counseling).
- Must hold or be in the process of obtaining a full or temporary license to practice Genetic Counseling in the state where work is being performed. Temporary license may not have a lapse of greater than 60 days during re-application process in event of failed exam.
Specialized Knowledge:
- Advanced genetic counseling skills with experience and capability to manage the most complex genetic indications, challenging pedigree analysis with corresponding risk assessment, and difficult underlying psychosocial dynamics of the patient.
- Familiarity with Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
Kind and Length of Experience:
- 3-5 years previous experience as a clinical genetic counselor.
