The Assistant Vice President of Medical Services has the primary responsibility to oversee Physicians in department leadership roles, physician relations, the credentialing and privileging of the Medical Staff and any services that relate to the medical staff. The physician AVP, in conjunction with the CMO, will oversee, in collaboration with nursing and department leadership, the day-to-day clinical functions of SEH. In this role, the physician AVP will help to direct SEH as a High Reliability Organization. As a key member of the health system administrative team, this position works with other members of the administrative team and medical staff on strategic planning, capital and operational budgets, development of new projects and services the day-to-day operations of the Health System.Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Job Description:
Medical Staff/Graduate Medical Education Office:
- Works with the director and staff of Medical/Dental staff Office in matters pertaining to the credentialing and privileging of the members of the medical/dental staff.
- Works with the members of the medical/dental staff, in matters pertaining to credentialing, risk management, and compliance.
- Has responsibility for addressing disruptive physician issues and for performing administrative duties related to physician credentialing and privileging.
- Will oversee graduate medical education including St. Elizabeth sponsored residency programs.
Operations:
- In collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer and CMO, will oversee and coordinate clinical activities at SEH.
- Physician AVP will make rounds in all areas of the hospitals (all campuses) and outpatient departments to elicit physician input and involvement in clinical operations.
- Works closely with the Chief Nursing Officer, Assistant Vice Presidents of Nursing, and the Directors of departments to help assure proper clinical working of clinical departments as well as the development and enforcement of clinical policies and procedures.
- Ensure completion of the aspects of the strategic plan as it relates to the medical staff and physician services.
- Will oversee graduate medical education including St. Elizabeth sponsored residency programs.
Physician Leadership:
- Will have responsibility to oversee physician medical directors involved in the operations of clinical departments as well as co-management agreements.
- Will have clinical responsibility for hospitalist programs.
Physician Relations:
- Works with and oversees physician relations activities including but not exclusively the medical staff library and continuing medical education.
Quality Management:
- Works closely with the Chief Medical Officer / Chief Quality Officer and the Vice President of Quality Operations to collaborate and assist in programs to improve clinical quality and patient safety outcomes.
- The position is responsible for reviewing all OPPE/FPPE data regarding providers.
Accreditation:
- Work closely with the CMO/CQO and the Vice President of Quality Operations to assist with accreditation activities.
Discharge Planning/Care Management Team:
- Attends the Utilization Management Committee and works closely with the Care Coordination Department and the Physician Advisers to assure the proper placement of patients according to Interqual Criteria.
- Also works to assure proper discharge process are in place, thereby reducing readmissions.
Other Duties as Assigned
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
- Graduate of an accredited medical school, board certified/admissible in their specialty
- Must meet appointment qualifications of the St. Elizabeth Medical/Dental Staff
Specialized Knowledge:
- Proven success in Quality, Pt. Safety, Risk Management, Infection Control improvement Activities
- History of successfully engaging Medical Staff to improve outcomes-
- Successfully demonstrates establishment of strong working relationships with Nursing and other hospital departments as well as other Medical Staff depts.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in clinical, educational and administrative leadership
- Ability to analyze data and develop recommendations/actions based upon the results
- Experience in driving change in an organization
Kind and Length of Experience:
- Five or more years experience in the practice of medicine.
- Past experience in medical staff leadership
