The St. Elizabeth Healthcare Specialty Oncology Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for direct patient care via pharmacist/practitioner for patients in our specialty pharmacy. Care is provided by the pharmacist to help optimize specialty medication therapies, improving patient outcomes, safety, and cost utilization.The desirable candidate for this position has experience in Specialty Pharmacy and Oncology.
The Outpatient Pharmacist provides medications and counseling upon presentation of a prescription prescribed by a registered healthcare practitioner to the patients, ensuring accuracy and safety while monitoring for any intervention that might be needed. The pharmacist also counsels and recommends over the counter products to our patients assuring there are no pharmacologic or physiologic contraindications. In addition, they maintain sound accounting practices and oversee the process in the outpatient pharmacy. The Outpatient Pharmacist must be able to provide top notch customer service to the customers while being an educational resource for them. The outpatient pharmacist may be required to be on call to support the specialty pharmacy.

Job Description:
- Provide top notch customer service following AIDET
- Reviews and monitors patient treatment medications for appropriateness based on current clinical and institutional guidelines as well as patient-specific criteria
- Provides final professional review and verification of prescription filling and offsite facility orders. Assures timeliness and accuracy of filling and that all processing has a pharmacist final check.
- Provides accurate, adequate and timely drug information to patients, the medical staff, and nursing staff.
- Supervises and directs Interns and Technicians: Provides active direct supervision and mentoring of Interns and Technicians as guided by ICARE values. This includes monitoring timely completion of tasks, redirection of staff to meet patient needs and encouraging use of the AIDET model in interaction with staff, patients and visitors. Reports behavior not responsive to direct intervention to the leadership team
- Maintains inventory and responsible for order management, ensuring the product is on hand and ordered from the appropriate wholesaler. Follows sound accounting principles. Contributes to financial contribution and assures department is meeting budgeted goals
- Act as a liaison to other departments within the healthcare system including but not limited to: Hospice, Social Service, SDS, Meds to Beds, Specialty Pharmacy and provider offices as well as any other departments.
- Maintains Professional Competency: Maintains licensure. Completes all departmental competency/skills assessment requirements. Maintains current knowledge of pharmacy practice. Seeks to develop and maintain skills in areas of specialized practice.
- Assures adherence to regulatory guidelines (State Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency, Centers for Medicare/Medicaid services, Food and Drug Administration, The Joint Commission)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
- Graduate from NABP accredited pharmacy college
- Current US pharmacist license in state where work is being performed.
