The Point of Care Coordinator is responsible for implementing and coordinating point of care patient testing, facilitating compliance with St Elizabeth Healthcare procedures and policies and with regulatory requirements.Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Job Description:
- Performs on-site review of patient testing, quality control and maintenance logs and reports problems and regulatory non-compliance to appropriate management personnel. Facilitates and ensures documentation of competency training and oversees completion of proficiency testing programs.
- In conjunction with the nursing manager and supervisor, coordinates problem resolution for point of care testing.
- Provides on-site technical resource assistance to point of care personnel for problem solving related to quality control and instrument performance.
- Maintains records required for regulatory compliance for quality control, proficiency testing, instrument maintenance and corrective actions.
- In conjunction with the nurse manager, provides a communication link to point of care departments from the technical specialist, to include implementation of new instruments, policies and procedures. Assists the supervisor in selection and validation of new methods.
- Ensures that a system is in place for adequate point of care inventory control.
- Notifies the supervisor and nurse manager of major technical problems and works with them for problem resolution.
- Performs duties required of a medical technologist I.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
- MT(ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) certification or equivalent
- Bachelors degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science with at least one year experience with high complexity testing
Specialized Knowledge:
- Must be able to professionally interact with patients, visitors, physicians and staff. Must have excellent customer service skills including superior communication skills (verbal, written, and listening).
- Must have good analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to multi-task effectively in a stressful environment.
Kind and Length of Experience:
At least 1-3 years experience with moderate complexity testing. (see above)
