Job Summary:

The Director of Business Operations for SEP provides strategic and operational leadership for SEP, serving as a key advisor to executive, clinical, and operational leaders. This role is accountable for the financial sustainability, operational performance, physician compensation, and strategic alignment of the company by integrating disciplined financial management, data-driven decision-making, and standardized operational practices.
The Director partners with physician and administrative leaders to ensure budgets, staffing models, capital investments, physician compensation, and service line decisions are financially sound, strategically aligned, and supportive of quality, access, and growth objectives. The position functions as the primary divisional resource for financial analysis, performance insights, and proactive risk mitigation across all professional services.

Job Description:

  • Understand and uphold SEP’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide enterprise-level oversight of operating and capital budget development, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and alignment with strategic and clinical objectives.
  • Lead divisional financial planning, forecasting, and variance analysis, enabling leaders to proactively manage performance, mitigate risk, and optimize resource allocation.
  • Review and approve financial analyses, business cases, and ROI justifications for new services, FTEs, capital investments, and operational initiatives.
  • Identify and advance opportunities for revenue optimization, cost containment, productivity improvement, and margin enhancement across St. Elizabeth Physicians.
  • Responsible for the Provider compensation across both SEH & SEP.
  • Design, implement, and sustain a comprehensive suite of financial and operational dashboards, KPIs, and management reports that clearly communicate divisional performance and trends.
  • Translate complex financial and operational data into actionable insights to inform leadership decisions, clinical planning, and strategic investments.
  • Facilitate training of direct reports and providers in service excellence, quality, utilization, and other initiatives.  Review performance results and create action plans for improvement. Meet or exceed annual objectives for defined service, quality, and utilization metrics. Facilitate Action Planning related to service excellence, quality outcomes, utilization, and operational efficiency.
  • Responsible for the development, routine use, and distribution of financial management reports that depict the financial outcomes of the division.
  • Manage, implement, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Lead financial onboarding and education for new Managers and Directors, strengthening financial literacy, accountability, and decision competency across the division.
  • Responsible for the development, routine use, and distribution of financial management reports that depict the financial outcomes of the division.
  • Develops and maintains a productive and collaborative relationship with leadership within the Professional Service Division and interfacing with other hospital departments within the organization.
  • Serves as a liaison with the Accounting/Finance Department on financial issues related to the Professional Services division.

Monthly:

  • Conduct regular meetings with direct reports and providers to communicate objectives, financial and operational performance, and other defined performance measures
  • Determine and maintain appropriate practice staffing levels in accordance with company defined guidelines.
  • Ensure Provider Compensation is reported timely and accurately. 

As Needed:

  • Identify and assist areas with revenue enhancements and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned completed in a timely and accurate basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for travel between office sites.

Specialized Knowledge: 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  Ability to learn and adapt to the use of new technologies, applications, and workflows.
  • Must attain working knowledge of SEP practice management and electronic health record applications.  Previous use of EPIC Cadence/Prelude/Ambulatory preferred.
  • Must effectively use other electronic resources, including time and attendance, payroll, and purchasing applications.
  • Demonstrated success managing physician practice operations, including provider relations, patient flow, revenue cycle, quality, service excellence, purchasing and inventory, and team building and accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team-based, decision-making culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently resulting in effective outcomes and on time performance.
  • Must respond and follow through to requests from customers promptly.
  • Must work carefully and precisely with attention to detail.  Must utilize resources wisely.
  • Performs duties willingly and with initiative.  Shares necessary information so co-workers can do the same.  Cooperates with other departments and work groups.

Kind and Length of Experience: 

  • Minimum 5 years in health care operations
  • Minimum 3 years of direct leadership experience
