St. Elizabeth Healthcare is hiring a Lead Paramedic Educator for our Paramedic Education Department. This role will be located at the Florence Fire/EMS.

Job Description:

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Educator shall assist in the administration and organization of didactic and lab education for all EMS programs. The Educator shall also serve as a member of the programs advisory committee. The EMS Educator will be expected to perform in an interim role of Program Coordinator if necessary.

EMS Educator is responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Designing, evaluating, and updating paramedic curriculum.
  • Updating Blackboard appropriately The and post no-shows/student grades during appropriate times as deemed by the college
  • Returning student emails within 48 hours
  • Updating and tracking student skills sheets and attendance
  • Preparing and delivering lectures in the didactic setting.
  • Preparing skills and scenario lab.
  • Creating and delivering high stakes quizzes/tests to Program Coordinator and Medical Director one week prior to testing.
  • Evaluating high stakes testing data for validity and reliability after test administration.
  • Preparing lab in order to supplement didactic learning and prepare for psychomotor testing.
  • Updating Program Coordinator regarding status of students
  • Providing all course documentation to the Program Coordinator at the end of the semester.
  • Assist in EMT class/lab as needed
  • Assist in the delivery of didactic courses; act as teaching assisting (TA) for all courses
  • Assist with program paperwork such as student records, EMS applications and acceptance letters, recruitment emails and mailings, and end of semester closeouts such as KBEMS and National Registry paperwork, and completion records.
  • Assist during National Registry Testing.
  • Assist with updating laboratory and didactic objectives
  • EMS Educator is responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Whether in didactic or clinical instruction or supervised practice, must supervise and provide frequent assessments of the students progress in achieving acceptable program requirements.
  • Perform site visits to clinical and field sites

    Aid in recruitment and retention efforts & attend EMS committee meetings

    Assess instructional needs of students and develop plan to address those needs (ex: study groups, extra labs as needed); develop and assist with remediation plans.

    Maintain Gateway ambulance.

    Complete the On-line Training modules as required per KCTCS HR Policies and Procedures to include Sexual Harassment and Information Security Training; read and sign the Exposure Control Plan, be familiar with college policies and procedures.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • Current Level III EMS Educator in state where work is being performed or ability to become either Level III EMS Educator within 9 months of hire.
  • Current Paramedic licensure in state where work is being performed or Current National Registry Paramedic certification.
  • Possess an associate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Have appropriate medical or allied health education, training, and experience in emergency care.

Specialized Knowledge: 

  • Be knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing, and evaluation of students.
  • Have academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services at least equivalent to that of program graduates
  • Be knowledgeable concerning current national curricula, national accreditation national registration, and the requirements for state certification or licensure.
  • Have teaching experience to deliver content, skills instruction, and remediation.
  • Be knowledgeable in course content and effective in teaching assigned subjects, and capable through academic preparation, training and experience to teach the courses or topics to which they are assigned.
  • Knowledge of the proper operation of and the ability to use personal computers and job-related software, including Microsoft Office and other job specific software.

DESIRABLE

  • Possess an Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • Two years of experience in developing and delivering EMS education.
  • Two years of experience in delivering Emergency Medicine at level of Paramedic or higher.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor
  • Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) and/or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or other specialized certification
  • If Registered Nurse, prefer pre-hospital or emergency background
