Job Summary:
• To coordinate and monitor adherence to HIM compliance program• To educate HIM, CDI, physicians, ancillary departments and other internal customers regarding appropriate documentation and accurate coding practices
• To perform internal coding audits for compliance and educational purposes
• To assist in DRG denials, medical necessity issues, and RAC and other government or commercial audits

Job Description:
- Coordination of internal audit program including review of all cases referred for coding review by coder referral to the Coding Compliance Work Queue’s in Epic, by Quality Management Department, by Patient Safety & Accreditation and other internal customers to ensure compliance with Official Coding Guidelines and SEH Internal Coding Policies.
- Assists and conducts internal coding audits of all inpatient/outpatient coders for accuracy, and monitor coding audits for contracted entities. For inpatients monitors accuracy of POA assignment, ensuring proper coding of hospital acquired conditions. Coordinates findings and feedback with managers, team leads and coders.
- Responsible for maintaining and developing internal coding guidelines. Develop and implement hospital-wide query policy and ensure compliance with education and regular audits of querying activity. Stay informed of current changes and additions to coding policy, coordinating education with HIM, CDI and physicians through meetings, written materials, story boards, and other means as necessary. Monitor and educate outpatient staff and ancillary departments on required documentation for medical necessity issues. Facilitate education with consultants as necessary.
- Assist with DRG denials in response to RAC and other government or commercial audits, coordinating with patient accounts and writing appeals. May include preparation for administrative hearings with payers.
- Assists HIM Compliance Manager with various projects as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
- Associate of Arts/Science Degree
- CCS, RHIT or RHIA Credentials
Specialized Knowledge:
- Prospective Payments Systems, ICD/CPT/HCPCS Coding systems.
- Proficient use of personal computer and Windows applications.
- Exceptional verbal/written communication skills.
- Knowledge of encoding/grouping/compliance software.
- Experience with electronic medical record.
Kind and Length of Experience:
- 5+ years hospital production coding experience
- 2+ years clinical documentation experience
