St. Elizabeth Healthcare is hiring an Oncology Financial Counselor for the Dearborn Cancer Center.Shift/Hours: Full Time, 40 hours/week, 8:00A - 4:30P
Job Description:
The Oncology Financial Counselors serve as financial specialists for all oncology patients and are responsible for screening and assisting those patients. The Oncology Liaisons identify and coordinate oncology patient assistance programs/resources to maximize revenue capture for the Healthcare system. The Oncology Liaisons also serve as a gatekeeper by assisting the Registration, First Source, and Self Pay Unit by obtaining missing signatures, additional insurance or income information.
Patient Satisfaction:
- Frequent communication and collaboration with patients, physicians, nurses, insurance companies, social workers and other departments to identify additional information that may qualify the patient for coverage through Medicaid, Financial Assistance or Hospital charity programs.
- Coordinate enrollment of free drug programs and collaborate with pharmacy for drug shipment.
- Track due dates of specialty drugs and coordinate with pharmacy for ordering and delivery.
- Coordinate enrollment in patient assistance/ copay assistance programs.
- Calculate approximate cost of treatments/test/infusions, calculates approximate out-of-pocket cost to patient/significant other.
- Meets with patients prior to each new treatment protocol to educate about the financial responsibility.
- Serves as contact and support person for patients and families in regard to insurance and/or financial questions
Revenue Cycle Management:
- Conducts screening of all Self Pay patients to identify additional information that may qualify the patient for insurance coverage or financial assistance.
- Conduct screening of new treatment patients to evaluate eligibility for copay assistance or free drug programs.
- Review all high dollar accounts for possible insurance, Medicaid, disability, DSH program, hospital charity programs.
- Assists patients with completing financial forms requesting information about income and expenses
- Outsource patients to Self Pay and First Source when appropriate.
- Process payments from copay assistance programs
- Review and submit claims to foundation assistance programs for payment.
- Collaborate with payment posting and customer service departments to ensure copay assistance payments are posted accurately.
Reports/Work Q’s:
- Receives new treatment plans in work queue’s to review for free drug, copay assistance, DSH, or charity programs.
- Communicate with pharmacy and clinical staff through in-basket messaging.
- Produce coinsurance liability for Medicare Beneficiaries at the offsite locations using a cost estimator.
Vendor Relation:
- Assist third party vendors and or patients with itemized statements, adjustments, insurance issues, charity, bankruptcy, settlements, and all other requests.
- Assist all vendors and other departments with reconciliation and Audits
- Collaborate routine updates and changes with vendors
Education, Credentials, Licenses: High school diploma or GED
Specialized Knowledge: Excellent oral & written communication skills along with reasoning and mathematical skills. Must have knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy. Excellent customer service skills. Knowledge of commercial and Medicare insurance benefit coverage. Knowledgeable of community services and programs available
Kind and Length of Experience: Three years’ experience in financial counseling; hospital third party billing and/ follow-up or related experience.
