Job Summary:

Satisfy timeliness/quality requirements of the Kentucky Cancer Registry (KCR) and the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACOS CoC) in reporting cancer and keeping an accredited cancer program. Specifically responsible for assistance with the maintenance of all Cancer Registry suspense files, completing timely case finding so as cases are ready for daily abstracting, coordinating quality audits, and assistance with keeping follow-up information up to date on all cases. Participate in community education/prevention/screening/patient support projects.

Job Description:

  • Monitors all Oncology Data Specialists II (ODS II) Excel work queues for completed cases and updates multiple case-finding files timely (on a continuum).
  • Obtains/maintains all cancer registry electronic case-finding systems monthly timely (EPIC, Mosaic, hospice).  Converts reports and prepares Excel files for all lists and saves for Oncology Data Specialist Is (ODS I) case-finding review.
  • Accurately/timely assists with weekly Cancer Conference/quarterly Cancer Committee preparation.  
  • Keeps an electronic Non-reportable case-finding log on a continuum and communicates/sends reports/information to the Kentucky Cancer Registry (KCR) quarterly.
  • Regularly reviews electronic obituaries and cross references in the Cancer Registry CPDMS database for expired Cancer Registry cases in need of updating.Collects CPDMS case information and submits to Cancer Registrars for completion. Accurately updates pertinent patient data recorded in KCR CPDMS database system.
  • Assists with preparation/maintenance of all education, prevention, screening, and support activities.  Including, but not limited to, NKWCC Prevention Pays mail-in mammography coupons program, melanoma screenings, smoking cessation programs, CancerHelp updates,  Look Good Feel Better program and all American Cancer Society functions.                                                                                               
  • Assists manager with special projects, performs administrative secretarial functions often as identified, and other miscellaneous duties assigned.  Serves as support staff to all Cancer Registry staff. 
  • Participates in performance improvement activities that include intra/interdepartmental communication.  Specifically, completes quarterly case-finding performance improvement (PI) audits.  Prepares for state audits according to protocol as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • High School diploma      

Specialized Knowledge: 

  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • EMR navigation, data entry, medical terminology

Kind and Length of Experience: 

  • 1 year experience successful employment in a healthcare setting
