Reports to Team Leader or Patient Access Manager, the Clinical Patient Access Specialist is primarily responsible for relaying reviewed normal, expected, or abnormal results to patients. The Clinical Patient Access Specialist will successfully manage large amounts of inbound calls while ensuring all pertinent medical information and care needs for patients are identified, documented, and communicated to the provider. The Clinical Patient Access Specialist is always responsible for creating a positive impression with patients, family members and other callers.Job Description:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
2. Comply with scheduling of patients and release of medical information processes to stay compliant with OSHA/CLIA/HIPAA.
3. Accurate documentation in the EMR.
4. Provide instructions and results to patients under directions of the providers.
5. Communicates as needed with offices about any patient concerns/issues related to results.
6. Schedules appointments for patients based on the criteria outlined in the office scheduling preference cards and/or decision trees.
7. Maintains an effective working relationship with team members, members of medical practice and leadership.
8. Verifies and updates all patient demographic and insurance information.
9. Provide information and communicate effectively to resolve issues with patients, providers, other associates, management and insurance companies.
10. Advises patients of outstanding balances.
11. Ensures accurate and timely distribution of patient requests.
12. Works with central billing office and physicians/clinicians as needed in a timely manner on all requests.
13. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
1. Knowledge of current practice management and electronic medical record systems (training provided).
2. Extensive knowledge of insurance plans accepted by SEP.
3. Extensive knowledge of referral process for insurance plans accepted by SEP.
4. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team-based, decision-making culture.
5. Demonstrated ability to work independently resulting in effective outcomes and on-time performance.
6. Experience in planning and coordinating multi-disciplinary communications strategies, strategic initiatives, and events.
7. Must respond and follow through to requests from customers promptly.
8. Must work carefully and precisely with attention to detail.
9. Must utilize resources wisely.
10. Performs duties willingly and with initiative. Shares necessary information so co-workers can do the same.
11. Cooperates with other departments and work groups.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
An approved credential such as LPN, CMA, RMA, EMT, or other required.
EDUCATION:
Minimum: Active certification or license of LPN, CMA, RMA, EMT, or other required.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
Minimum: One year of experience in area of certification in a clinical setting.
